RAG ON A STICK, 2025

The story of this work began in the summer of 2023, when I was finally no longer able to draw the literal bodies of the dead invaders. The coping mechanism of the psyche had already built up a decent distance from the war and I was thinking more about how memory works. It would be more accurate to say how forgetting a catastrophe that is still happening works.
Then, in 2023, I drew a black flag with graphite plastic, burned it, transferred the graphite traces to a piece of paper and printed the FLAG OF FORGETTING series from it. At that time I wanted the flags that lead people to their deaths to be forgotten forever.

In 2025 I returned to this image again, without burning it. The war cemeteries of the fighting sides are similar to each other: the same graves, wreaths, bouquets and crosses. Only the flags stuck into the graves differ: one of three colors, the other of two. One color is common.
Now it is especially important to remember, any flag is just a rag on a stick.


История этой работы началась летом 2023г, когда я уже окончательно больше не мог рисовать буквальные тела погибших захватчиков. Защитный механизм психики уже выстроил приличную дистанцию относительно войны и я больше думал о том, как работает память. Вернее будет сказать, как работает забвение катастрофы, которая все еще длится.
Тогда, в 2023г я нарисовал графитовым пластиком черный флаг, сжег его, перенес следы графита на лист бумаги и отпечатал с него серию FLAG OF FORGETTING. Тогда мне хотелось, чтобы знамена, ведущие за собой людей на смерть были навсегда забыты.

В 2025г я снова вернулся к этому образу, без сжигания. Военные кладбища воюющих сторон похожи друг на друга: те же холмики, венки, букеты и кресты. Отличаются лишь флаги, воткнутые в могилы: один трех цветов, другой - из двух. Один цвет общий.
Теперь особенно важно помнить, любой флаг это просто тряпка на палке.
